A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of.
-Jane Austen, Mansfield Park

I believe, as do many others, that society is largely to blame for our fascination and deep-seated desire for money, and Jane Austen’s quote demonstrates the feelings of those who buy into what society continues to sell us.

As with every change we want to make in our lives, in order to control our urgings for more more more!, we need to first change our attitude. And today, Dumb Little Man offers three tips for doing just that, for “finding happiness without buying it”: imagining having no money, wanting what you already have, and volunteering for those who really don’t have money.

I think creating your own 100 Things list is one way to start changing your attitude about money, if only because it makes you realize that there are indeed 100 things in your life that make you happy and do not involve swimming in cash. Have you started yours yet?
