30. Stargazing *

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

I have always enjoyed stargazing. I think it started with my parents encouraging my curiousity in astronomy. Before I could pronounce that word, they made it a habit to take us to a friend’s farm on nights during meteor showers. We’d take hot chocolate and lots of blankets, and lie in the field for what felt like hours, watching stars fall from the sky.

29. Love notes **

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Nothing can brighten your day more than a little message from your honey telling you why he loves you or just that he loves you. I define “note” liberally here, and I think that’s okay. Sometimes you can get that message of love from your special one in the form of an email, maybe a [...]

28. Irises, roses, and tulips *

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I’ve already mentioned that I like fresh flowers, but now I’m going to be a little more specific. My three favorite flowers are irises, roses, and tulips. The house I grew up in had beautiful purple and gold irises growing on the side. I don’t know if Mom planted them or if previous owners did, [...]

27. Lightest silvery purple *

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Why is your favorite color your favorite? I have a hard time explaining why this color makes me happy. Maybe it’s a chemical reaction in my brain. But whatever it is, light purple lifts my spirits. When I wear it, it’s a good day. Do you know what makes your favorite color your favorite?

26. The smell of Aspen cologne **

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Dad wore it when I was a kid and even today it makes me feel safe and secure, loved and treasured. Isn’t it amazing how powerful scents can be?

25. Completing a crochet project *

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Kasey first taught me to crochet, but I didn’t keep with it and I forgot, so Mutti had to re-teach me. Since then, I’ve made a few scarves and an afghan. The scarves have gotten increasingly better, but the afghan was terrible. Someday, I hope to make an afghan I’m proud of. Crocheting itself makes [...]

24. Rob’s eyes *

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

They’re beautiful. They’re so expressive. I could stare into them, laugh with them, cry with them forever.

23. Eliciting genuine laughter because I was actually funny *

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I’m into honesty. I know that I’m not funny. When I try, it usually fails. Miserably. As a teacher, I never know if my students are laughing because my joke was actually funny or if it’s just because I’m the teacher and they earn brownie points by laughing. I hope it’s the former. I even [...]

22. Getting and staying organized **

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I’ve almost become addicted to it. It all started with StumbleUpon and me stumbling upon LifeOrganizers.com. I started leaving the site up in my browser at home. I’d read a few articles everyday. And it infected me. Slowly at first, but now, two years later, organizing and maintaining that organization has become a part of [...]

21. Falling asleep in my husband’s arms. **

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Ahhh… is there any safer, more comfortable place? I submit that there is not. Sometimes we sleep facing each other, just holding hands. And that is quite wonderful. But what I really truly love is when we “spoon,” with his arms wrapped around me, his breath tickling the hair on the back of my neck, [...]
