I absolutely love rain, and there is nothing better than getting to hear and see a majestic thunderstorm. I love the sound the rain makes on the roof and windows, combined with the sounds of it pelting the ground, trees, and other surfaces outside.
Thunder claps sound so powerful and sometimes they’re funny. When I was a girl, Mom always told me that thunder is just God and the angels bowling,

That’s right; I listen to public radio. And I love it.
I got into quite the great routine during grad school. On days when Rob had to work early, I would listen to NPR as I showered, got ready for the day, and drove to school. When I got an MP3 player with FM radio, I listened to NPR as I walked from the parking lot to the English building. Same routine on the way home. I love getting high-quality news with fun pieces mixed in.

This is closely related to yesterday’s topic, but different. You see, you can’t see Saturn from close up on your back porch. But you can enjoy an eclipse from anywhere (as long as it’s visible where you’re at).
Lunar, solar, total, partial, or annular, eclipses are amazing. In a lunar eclipse, the Earth casts it’s shadow on the Moon because it has come between the Sun and the Moon. In a solar eclipse, the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, blocking out the light of the Sun. Isn’t that crazy?!

I have always enjoyed stargazing. I think it started with my parents encouraging my curiousity in astronomy. Before I could pronounce that word, they made it a habit to take us to a friend’s farm on nights during meteor showers. We’d take hot chocolate and lots of blankets, and lie in the field for what felt like hours, watching stars fall from the sky.

I’ve already mentioned that I like fresh flowers, but now I’m going to be a little more specific. My three favorite flowers are irises, roses, and tulips. The house I grew up in had beautiful purple and gold irises growing on the side. I don’t know if Mom planted them or if previous owners did, [...]

Why is your favorite color your favorite? I have a hard time explaining why this color makes me happy. Maybe it’s a chemical reaction in my brain. But whatever it is, light purple lifts my spirits. When I wear it, it’s a good day. Do you know what makes your favorite color your favorite?

Kasey first taught me to crochet, but I didn’t keep with it and I forgot, so Mutti had to re-teach me. Since then, I’ve made a few scarves and an afghan. The scarves have gotten increasingly better, but the afghan was terrible. Someday, I hope to make an afghan I’m proud of. Crocheting itself makes [...]

They’re beautiful. They’re so expressive. I could stare into them, laugh with them, cry with them forever.

I’m into honesty. I know that I’m not funny. When I try, it usually fails. Miserably. As a teacher, I never know if my students are laughing because my joke was actually funny or if it’s just because I’m the teacher and they earn brownie points by laughing. I hope it’s the former. I even [...]

I remember liking to pop pimples when I was in high school, but I thought it was totally weird. I thought I was the only one. Then I got to college and discovered that my roommates also liked to pop pimples. I wasn’t too weird! I finally felt totally normal with this little personal care [...]
