This week was a cut-back week, and I only ran three times. I felt so sore on Friday and didn’t want to make it worse for the 13 miler on Saturday that I opted to commit to extra stretching and a long walk on Sunday. I think that was a good idea, because I still had pain during the run on Saturday!
As a result of a discussion with Sarah, I decided to commit to stretching more. I think that might help some of my pain, but even if my pain can’t be healed with stretching, I’ll be loosened, and that’s good. I am going to stretch every morning right after I wake up, focusing on loosening up my hamstrings and calves. My favorite Olympic runner had to cope with hamstring cramps during her marathon, and I can only hope that I have the physical and mental strength she did to keep going through the pain. Maybe stretching now will save me some of that later? Yikes…

route: Started at Seltersweg, out to the 1-mile marker in Stadtwald Giessen, back down to the Blue Arrow. Out to the Other Forest and the left, through the forest, over the railroad tracks, through the field, and partially through the city. Turn around, back to The Main and home.

additional notes: My knees were both hurting, as was my left hip joint. I’m glad this is a cut-back week!
Rob took me on a new route–it’s beautiful and best of all, not very hilly!
run type: long run
route: Started at Seltersweg, out to the 2-mile marker in Stadtwald Giessen, back down to the Blue Arrow. Out to the Other Forest and the left, through the forest, over the railroad tracks, through the field, and partially through the city. Turn around, back to the railroad tracks, but straight instead of crossing them. Out that path an estimated 1 mile (I think it ended up being 1.1), back to The Main and home.

additional notes: Carb shots every 4 miles, mentally I felt very strong. I did have a weird pain in my chest on the first hill and had to walk twice (1 min and 2 min) Then, I had to wait for the train (30 sec) and had to wait to cross Schiffenbergerweg (20 sec). I walked a total of 6 min to take last 2 PowerGels.
