The Great Fitness Blogging Experiment: Week 3

In this week’s Great Fitness Blogging Experiment post, I share the story of a tough week, fraught with depression and fighting (and winning!) my conditioned response: stress eating. Go read it over on the Thrive Personal Fitness blog.

Running: When It Just Clicks

At some point in every runner’s career, it will just click. I don’t mean that you’ll “get” running or suddenly like it when it was only part of your exercise regimen before. At some point, the world around you just shifts, and running is different. That happened to me this morning. Sometimes, it’s called “being [...]

The Great Fitness Blogging Experiment: Week 2

Oh man. My second post on Pamela’s Thrive Personal Fitness blog was published today, and I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t re-read these. I don’t really do that with posts here either. I write, edit, let it sit, edit some more, and finally publish. Then it’s out in the world and on its own. But I [...]

Pamela is the Best Personal Trainer in 417

We’ve got a great regional magazine here in Springfield, 417 Magazine, named after our telephone area code. Every year, they ask for 417 peeps to nominate the Best of 417 Land, and my personal trainer, Pamela, is in the running. She does a really good job of explaining why she’s so great, but I want [...]

How to Support Local Businesses in Springfield

Tomorrow, Springfield voters will decide whether or not to allow smoking in all indoor public places, and I will be voting against the smoking ban, and you should too. Here’s why.

Despite our persistence in believing that restaurants, bars, and our work places are “public,” they are actually private property that the owners open up to the public. Voters should not decide for thousands of business owners whether or not patrons should be allowed to smoke in those private businesses.

2011 New Year’s Resolutions: February Update

Last month, I made some resolutions, some goals. I stated changes I want to make in my life (note: I did not say “changes to be made in my life”). Whatever you want to call them, I call them improvements. And the cold, hard truth is this:

If you want your life to change, you must change your life.

Here are my goals:

I Am a Gigantic Idiot

Oh, yes. I really am a gigantic idiot*. Let me tell you why. Yesterday. Went to the Y and did weight machines, two different types of bicep-training ones. Put on the most weight that I though I could handle so that I’d work my muscles to exhaustion like you’re supposed to.  Then I went swimming. [...]
