A pretty good week, mostly because of the great long run, which I haven’t had in a while. We ran in Berlin on Sunday because we were up for a birthday party (which was really run!). It was… an interesting fun.

Berlin Marathon Training in Stadtwald Giessen: 15 Weeks Out
Finally a good week. We pretty much just took it easy this week so that I could fully recover from the awful 8- and 9-mile runs I had in the last two weeks. And it worked. I had three really good runs, all at good paces, too.
Yeah, you read it right: I only ran three days this week. We had a guest, my dear friend Mara, all week, and just couldn’t fit in one run. Luckily, it was the 3 miler.
Berlin Marathon Training in Stadtwald Giessen: 16 Weeks Out
This week started off good, with two runs at 10″00 per mile and 10″42 per mile. But it ended with two hard runs with over 12″00 per mile and one very upset tummy afterwards. I hope I can get this figured out before the long runs get even longer.
Runners, I have another question for your at the end of this post. Let me know what you think.
Pre-marathon Training in Stadtwald Giessen: Final week
This was my last week of “pre-training” before I begin the 16-week countdown until the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, September 28. I only missed one 5-mile run (last time I’ll not feel guilty about missing a run!), and ended with a *cough* “strong” 8 miler.
Pre-marathon Training in Stadtwald Giessen: 2 Weeks Left
Two weeks out from official training, and I’m getting excited. I put my training plan into a Google Calendar today, and while it isn’t 100% set in stone (we have a few trips/visitors to plan around), it’s my plan, and it’s going to be my life for the 17 weeks before the big day. If you want to take a look, click here. Feel free to leave me a comment if you have advice or suggestions for my training!
Pre-marathon Training in Stadtwald Giessen: 3 Weeks Left
I am planning on blogging about each week of my marathon training, and to get in the habit, I’m starting with three weeks left in my pre-marathon training. Just for future reference, my running weeks begin on Monday and end on Sunday.

100 Mile–8 Week Challenge: Week 7
As I lie in bed writing about the penultimate week in our 100–mile—8 week challenge, I am getting really excited. Not about the challenge particularly, but about the fact that I just had a legitimate opportunity to use the word “penultimate.” I mean, seriously, how often does that chance roll across your path? And in [...]
100 Mile–8 Week Challenge: Weeks 5 and 6
Well! I have gotten behind, haven’t I? I don’t like excuses, but here is an explanation (there’s a difference!). Weeks 5 and 6 were the last two weeks of school. And it doesn’t seem to matter how organized I am, during those two weeks of any given semester, I’m bombarded with papers to grade, students [...]
100 Mile–8 Week Challenge: Week 4
Okay, so I’m post-posting this (does that work?!), but at least I’m posting it! I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed in myself. In 2007, from February until September, Sarah and I ran 3 or 4 times a week pretty regularly (minus a few weeks off because of vacation or pain). The last [...]
100 Mile–8 Week Challenge: Week 3
Not the greatest week, running-wise, but as Deanna and LifeStudent say, baby steps are good and just moving is better than not! One true running day this week, two lazy walk-only days that should have been running days, and one started-off-as-a-run-day, but ended up as a walk/speed-work/hill-work day because of bladder infection-induced pain. It isn’t [...]
