Keeping the Gators Fed: Why I Crave Horror Movies (and Running)
Last week, my Composition I students had to write a blog post responding to Stephen King’s short piece called “Why We Crave Horror Movies.” The prompt asked them to persuade their audience that their method of “keeping the insanity at bay” is acceptable. Here’s my own response.
King hit it right on the nose: We are [...]
How I Met My Husband
Today’s post is a part of the Springfield Bloggers Association “Take It and Blog Fridays.” The theme today is how you met your significant other.
Here’s the short story: Rob was playing drums in a band, Amsterband, and my best friend was dating the lead singer. She said, “I think you’d like the drummer. He’s cute, [...]
On Regaining Balance
For almost a year, I have been struggling with balancing responsibilities with recreation. It all started when the Moving Home date loomed closer. I was so excited to move to Berlin, then move home to start the next phase of our life.
It was bittersweet, though. I did not want to leave Germany, and I miss [...]
My Response to “State of the Union 2010″ at Freedom Watch News
I typically avoid talking about politics at all costs because that discussion, as President Obama said last night at the end of the State of the the Union Address, has become so divisive in our society. I hate that. I am a lover, I do not thrive on discord, and I hate it that we [...]
Reader Poll: What Should I Name My New Betta?
I got so many great name suggestions for my new betta fish on the original blog post, via Twitter, and on Facebook, and if you know me, you know that I am terribly indecisive. I just can’t choose from all of these creative names, so again, I’m asking for your help! I’ve collected all of [...]
What Should I Name My New Betta?
I love betta fish! I think they are so beautiful, all iridescent and colorful. Plus, they are easy to take care of and don’t require a lot of start-up capital (that is, you don’t need a huge fish tank with a filter). Plus, I can keep him on my desk. It gets lonely working from [...]
Happy Birthday to a Grandma Who Knew How to Have Fun!
My sweet Ruthie. Mom. Grandma. She had many titles, but by any name, she will always be remembered as a lively, caring, and fun woman. Early on the morning of October 29, 2009, my grandmother’s sleep turned into eternal rest as she succumbed to a heartless disease, one that was as painful for all those who loved her as it was for her. Today would have been her75th birthday, so I wanted to share some memories of a woman who I am just positive was the best grandma a girl could have.
2010 New Year’s Resolutions
As I begin the adventure of 20-10, I am going to try to do three things. The first is for my own sanity, productivity, and self-discipline. The second is for the most important connections in my life. The third, well, actually it is
I’m Back: What I’ve Been Up To
Oh man, have I been bad at blogging lately! I’ll tell you why in this post, and then in the next week or so, I’ll try to make up for it. In other words, this post will be an excuse post a.k.a. what I have been up to in the real worls, and then you’ll get some meatier posts later. I have been posting regularly on my photoblog so you can always check out the pictures I’ve posted there to satisfy you in times of regular blogging drought.
8 Things: I’ve Been Tagged
I don’t usually post survey-type memes on this blog (for me, those usually belong in a Facebook note), but after being tagged by both Sarah and Teresa, I just couldn’t hold out any longer.
