I deactivated my account in January and have not looked back! I do not even remember my password and could care less! I still get emails and phone notifications to come back to Facebook or to log-in, but I will not. I was on Facebook since 2003, when you had to be in a college network and none of us really had a clue what this site was all about. I will not get into lots details of why I use to enjoy the site or why I now hate the site, that will take forever and I have a life lol. But, I will give some examples, I do not enjoy all the stupid ads, political crap during the election, and to see older adults comment one another with insults and negativity just because someone does not agree with you. This one girl who I knew since I was a kid, went to the same schools, same high school job, bridesmaids at the same wedding, took me off her friend-list because I had a meaningless status about preferring other's post of cats over kids. She took it as a personal offense on her child. yea, I know it makes no sense.. All the marketing was annoying to me, I do not come onto the site for that. Then people would post those stupid memes or pictures that if you do not 'like' or 'share' this then you want this child to die of cancer or some ridiculous crap like that and people actually followed along with this. It was a waste of time and it was getting disturbing how some people would post and share with people some personal and what should be private information. There were many people I may have met once or never in my life, but just from their Facebook I could talk about them like I have known them all my life. That to me is a little disturbing. I respect privacy and especially mine. One thing about Facebook I loathe is the vanity with people . When I deactivated my account I was approached by some friends with "why did you take ME off you account"....no one ever thought I just deleted my account. It was like me leaving the site was a straight up personal attack on them. Its pathetic and I will never rejoin the site. When I was a 18 year old high school senior I had all the time in the world to do nothing and sit on my ass and look at photos or read the lives of other people doing the exact same thing as me. So to put it simply, Facebook is a waste of time.

So you dislike Facebook too, huh? I say go for it, delete the account! I think that most of the people whose events I actually want to go with can invite me via email. And you can announce that you are leaving several days over the period of a week or two and remind people to save your email address or phone number in case they want to reach you later when you are sans Facebook. I feel so great about deactivating my account these past two weeks that I don't really want to go back, but I really need to for work--my business card says "New Media Specialist" after all!

Oh the writer's block! The Facebook Likes have chosen a winner although I have not yet awarded the prize. Stay tuned for that blog post—I'm obviously over the block now!

Congratulations on quitting FB, if only temporarily. I'm actually already on my second account, and always tempted to delete it again as I rarely use it, but every time I summon up the courage, someone who I otherwise don't have contact with gets in touch with me, or else organises an event solely on that site. And I know I'm not the only one, many of my friends feel like they have to be on FB but would rather avoid it.

Incidentally, what happened to your attempt to break your writers' block?
